The Otter – Luxury Glamping with a Wild Heart

Nestled on a popular glamping site just outside the charming market town of Rhayader, The Otter is one of four beautifully designed Isabella Time Out Tents offering a luxury camping experience with all the comforts of home. It’s the perfect retreat for those who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of rural Wales without giving up the little luxuries that make a holiday truly special.

Sleeping up to five guests—with space for two more on a double sofa bed available for an additional fee—The Otter combines smart design with cosy charm. Inside, the tent features an open-plan living area with a spacious corner sofa and coffee table, ideal for relaxing after a day out exploring. The sofa also transforms into a bed, making it a flexible option for larger groups or families. A smart TV is included for those relaxing evenings in, where you can kick back and enjoy your favourite shows.

The fully equipped kitchenette includes a small fridge freezer, electric oven, kettle, toaster, and all the essentials needed to prepare anything from a hearty breakfast to a picnic or evening meal. Everything has been thoughtfully arranged to make cooking easy and sociable, so no one misses out on the fun.

At the rear of the tent, two bedrooms offer cosy sleeping arrangements: a raised comfy double bed in one, and a triple bunk setup in the other, with a lower double and upper single bed—perfect for families with children.

But the magic doesn’t end inside. Step outdoors and you’ll find your own private hot tub, where you can soak under the stars or enjoy a glass of bubbly in the warmth of the bubbles. The outdoor space also features a dining area for alfresco meals, a fire pit for marshmallow toasting, and a star-gazing hammock—a tranquil spot to relax with a book or simply take in the sounds of the nearby babbling brook.

While the tent doesn’t include a private bathroom, guests have easy access to modern on-site toilet and shower facilities, just a short walk from the accommodation. An electric plinth heater inside the tent adds a touch of warmth on cooler nights, so you can enjoy the true glamping experience in comfort.

Adding to the charm of your stay, you’ll find a small group of friendly alpacas on-site. These gentle animals bring smiles to everyone they meet and make the experience even more magical—especially for little ones.

Beyond the site, the local area offers endless opportunities for exploration. Watch the majestic Red Kites being fed nearby, take in the stunning landscapes of the Elan Valley, or enjoy a leisurely wander through the peaceful Gilfach Nature Reserve. Whether you're seeking adventure or simply a chance to unwind in nature, The Otter promises a truly memorable glamping escape.

Please Note: These tents have an Electric Plinth Heater to take the chill but allows you to experience the real meaning of 'Glamping.'

Please be advised that there is a 10pm outdoor noise curfew. This is a family-friendly property, and all guests are expected to respect the quiet hours to ensure the comfort of everyone on site.

2 night stay 4.7/5

This is our 2nd visit to tents. We stayed at ‘The Otter’ for 2 nights in July 2025. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. Only downside is the amount of flies and wasps but this was to be expected when it’s warm and sunny! Accommodation had fly tape and swatter which helped. Bbq & Hot tub was a great addition to our stay - hot tub is covered by a hedge for added privacy. Toilet facilities cleaned daily but would flood easily due to shower curtain and other guests not using it properly.

The Otter Glamping Tent 5/5

We had a great few days staying at The Otter. The site was very clean and beautiful flowers all over the site. Showers and toilet block was close by. Safe site for children to play and quiet at night time. Lovely to stay in something a little different, we will be back!

Amazing chilled weekend 5/5

This is thr 2nd time we have stayed on this site and find it amazing. The clamping tents are great for those that want to try camping but still like the home comforts of a bed, cooker and a sofa. The added touch of the hot tub and star gazing net is great for adults and children to just relax. Will be returning again, as it's just prefect for a great weekend to unwind

Beautiful stay in mid-Wales 5/5

My family had a beautiful stay in the Otter. Beforehand I was worried we would be cold as the weather hasn’t been the best, but the tent was toasty! Lots of lovely little touches, especially the basket with some Welsh goodies in and some fire wood. The Otter had everything we needed as a family of four, with plenty of space and surrounded by beautiful landscape. We loved watching the lambs and going to see the goats. We were also lucky to spot many red kites flying in the area. Thank you for a wonderful family weekend away.

Amazing despite the rain! 5/5

We stayed as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids, 3 and 5) and had a fab time. The tent was well equipped and we managed to keep it warm and cosy despite the cold and rain! Although I would recommend taking hot water bottles in the colder weather like we did. The beds were so comfy which was a huge bonus. The hot tub was of huge enjoyment to the kids and they loved it! The site itself was lovely and the kids loved exploring with the stream, the animals around and we saw lots of kites. The kitchen was well equipped and ate in the tent for all meals. Overall we had a fab stay despite the rain, although there is something lovely about listening to the rain on the tent roof when you are warm and cosy in bed!

Lovely touches throughout our stay at The Otter 5/5

Lovely stay at The Otter Clamping Tent, lovely touches through our stay! We would definitely stay again. Claire was super attentive and helpful - she couldn’t do more for us. Really close to Devils falls and Elan Valley both are must sees! Only negative we have was there was no toilet roll in the communal toilets from early on our first day, nor anything in the cupboards to restock. Remember to take your own!

A lovely mini break! 4.5/5

We had a lovely stay in the Otter tent. Tea, Coffee, milk provided along with some yummy welshcakes. Great kitchen set up and appliances. The hottub was great and location was absolutely stunning! There are two full bathrooms and two wcs only a short walk from the tent and are kept clean. Some constructive feedback for the owners: - a broom or brush and pan would be great for cleaning up day to day - a net for the hottub (we had a lot of flies and made the hottub a bit gross by the 3rd day) - the towels and bedding were a bit cheap/worn for the cost per night, these could be a little nicer quality. Finally, there was a group that pitched up tents on our last night. This felt a bit strange as they pitched in the field in front of our glamping tents which spoils the view. Also means the toilets are suddenly not just shared by the 4 glamping tents but by the large group now camping too. They arrived home at 230am which woke us all up (could a curfew be politely requested? Just as no parties are permitted in the glamping tents.) All in would absolutely recommend a visit. The bed was comfy and everything was clean and in good order. Sheep in the field across the way, goats, playground and 2 ponies. Quick responses on the one time we reached out to the host. Would come back!
