Swallows Rest – Rustic Barn Conversion with Hot Tub?

Looking for a countryside escape in rural Wales where comfort meets style? Welcome to Swallows Rest—a beautifully refurbished barn conversion designed to host up to six guests in true relaxation and charm.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the rustic beauty of this delightful property. With its red-brick exterior and carefully preserved features from the original barn, Swallows Rest exudes character before you even step through the door. A spacious parking area adds to the convenience, making your arrival as stress-free as your stay.

Inside, the open-plan living and dining area offers a warm and welcoming hub for families and friends. Original timber beams grace the ceilings and walls, filling the space with rustic authenticity, while vibrant, tasteful décor provides a modern twist. Gather together on the plush leather sofa to enjoy your favourite shows on the TV, or curl up beside the electric fire for a cosy evening after a day of exploring the countryside.

The light and airy kitchen is perfectly equipped for both short and long stays. Complete with a washing machine, tumble dryer, and all the essentials, it also features a central breakfast bar—ideal for a quick morning coffee, a casual bite, or even a celebratory glass of bubbly with friends. A skylight and glass door flood the room with natural light, making it the true heart of the home. When mealtimes come around, the extendable circular dining table is the perfect setting for family favourites or a relaxed takeaway.

On the ground floor, you’ll find two of the three bedrooms. The cosy twin room is perfectly suited for children or friends, while the double bedroom offers additional storage and a dresser for convenience. Also on this floor is a stylish family bathroom, complete with a walk-in shower, basin, and a bathtub that’s just waiting to be filled with bubbles for a long, relaxing soak.

Upstairs, the master suite provides a spacious and tranquil retreat. A king-size bed, dressing table, and TV ensure both comfort and convenience, while timber beams overhead add a cosy, characterful touch. On the mezzanine, a floral armchair creates a quirky little nook, perfect for settling down with a good book or simply enjoying a moment of calm. This floor also features a private shower room with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail, offering both style and practicality.

Step outside, and the charm of Swallows Rest continues. An enclosed garden creates a safe, private space for al fresco dining, morning coffees, or evening drinks. Comfortable outdoor seating makes it easy to soak up the sunshine, but the real highlight is the private hot tub. As the sun sets, sink into the warm bubbles with a glass of something special in hand and let the countryside views work their magic. Best of all, Swallows Rest is pet-friendly, so your four-legged friend can enjoy the holiday too.

Just a short distance away, you’ll find the charming town of Montgomery. Known for its quaint shops, delicatessens, and welcoming pubs, it’s also home to the historic ruins of Montgomery Castle, where panoramic views stretch across the rolling Welsh hills.

Combining rustic character, modern comforts, and thoughtful details, Swallows Rest is the perfect place to escape the everyday and create lasting memories with the people who matter most.

Beautiful place 4.5/5

We loved our stay here, the remote location was perfect for us, peaceful yet only a short drive to shops if needed. The highlight was definitely the night sky, being able to sit in the hot tub under the stars and even see the Milky Way was incredible! The place had almost everything we needed (there was no salt on arrival), and it was warm and cosy, which made it really relaxing. That said, there are a few things that could be improved. Cleanliness wasn’t quite up to the standard we’d expect for the price, for example, we noticed lots of dead flies under the blinds and some leftover facial hair behind a sink in one of the bathrooms. Our group also mentioned a couple of other cleanliness issues upstairs and something broken on the toilet. Nothing that ruined our stay, but worth noting. We also thought a bit more seating in the living room would make a big difference. With five of us, it was tricky to all get comfortable on the sofa and armchair, and the bean bags didn’t feel like proper seating. Overall though, it’s a beautiful place in a wonderful location, and we had a really lovely, relaxing time. With a few small improvements, it would be absolutely perfect.
