The Prancing Pony – A Peaceful Underground Retreat in the Heart of Wales
Tucked into the rolling hills of the Welsh countryside, The Prancing Pony offers a truly unique and tranquil escape. This charming underground hideaway is the ideal retreat for couples or small families looking to unwind and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Beautifully presented and full of character, this one-bedroom retreat sleeps up to four guests. Step inside to discover a thoughtfully designed open-plan living area that makes the most of the cosy space. The well-equipped kitchenette includes everything you need—from a hob and fridge to a kettle and toaster—perfect for preparing anything from a picnic lunch to a comforting evening meal.
Relax on the plush sofa and enjoy a movie on the wall-mounted TV, or simply settle in for a quiet evening. At the rear of the property, the inviting king-size bed provides the perfect spot for a lazy morning lie-in. Need space for extra guests? The sofa converts into a double bed, offering additional sleeping arrangements for up to two more.
The stylish bathroom features a modern walk-in shower, giving you a fresh start to your day before heading out to explore.
Outside, The Prancing Pony is surrounded by peaceful green fields and unspoiled views. Enjoy alfresco dining on the patio furniture, then sink into the warm bubbles of your private hot tub with a glass of something special as you take in the tranquillity around you. It’s the ultimate space to relax, reset, and reconnect.
What makes this retreat even more special is its sustainable energy source—powered by the family’s own hydroelectric system, The Prancing Pony is as eco-friendly as it is enchanting.
Looking to venture out? You’re just a short drive from some of Wales’ most scenic spots, including the majestic Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall and the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy.
The Prancing Pony is also pet-friendly, so your four-legged companions are welcome too—just remember to keep them on a lead when outside, as the property is located on a working farm with livestock.
Whether you're planning a romantic weekend or a peaceful family break, The Prancing Pony promises a memorable and magical stay in rural Mid Wales.
Trewern Ganol is a beautiful family-run farm, managed by brothers Dafydd and Owain. Dafydd lives on-site with his wife Heather and their adorable son, Cillian.
Heather brings a unique touch to the farm—she trains horses for film and television and also provides equine therapy to care homes, combining her love for animals with meaningful community work.
Both Dafydd and Heather are based right on the farm, so they’re always nearby if you need anything during your stay.
The Prancing Pony is nestled within Trewern Ganol farm, where you’ll be surrounded by a working countryside landscape filled with dairy cows, sheep, horses, and a few friendly goats.
What makes this place even more special? The entire farm, including the magical underground homes, is powered by their own sustainable hydroelectric system.
It’s a true escape to the countryside—peaceful, picturesque, and powered by nature.
